Tracking my Finances in November: Day 16
Welcome to my daily tracking of income and expenses for the month.
Income for the month to date: $2688.06
Expenses for the month to date: $2027.51
Net effect: $660.55
Wow this has been a BIG jump in the spending over the last few days. This is mainly because the bigger bills are now coming through. I had to send off money to mom for the loan payment and I paid some major credit card bills.
Why I WON’T stop using my Credit Cards
Most people say you should stop using the cards completely once you get the balance down to zero. I disagree with that point because when you have a zero balance you can make a profit by using the rewards card.
I have a Chase rewards card that gives cash back on purchases which is the ONLY card that I carry around with me. This card has a zero balance and I use it for all my purchases. I would use it for my rent but the limit on the card is not high enough and Chase will not let me make an overpayment on the card.
What I would do if I Won the Lottery
Over at Clever Dude there is a post called What I would do if I won the Lottery. I really liked that post and I thought about what I would end up doing if I won the lottery.
Well the first thing is that I do not play the lottery. However if I did play and won some money the first thing I would do is to pay off debt.
I am not going to get technical here with the lottery amounts and the taxes etc. I am going to make the simple assumption that I will take the lump sum and I will base my scenarios on the amount I would get after tax, regardless of what the total lottery amount actually was.
Tracking my Finances in November: Day 14
Welcome to my daily tracking of income and expenses for the month.
Income for the month to date: $2663.06
Expenses for the month to date: $1217.01
Net effect: $1446.05
I spent some more money getting food and a few other items for the house. I? am over my food budget of $100 already and I realize that I will have to rethink that budget amount because it is just not realistic right now.
I have not gained any income yet but I do see a few dollars coming in from some sponsored posts in the next few days so I am not worried.
Extreme steps to Getting rid of Debt
Here is one extreme step you can take to getting rid of your debt.
You can cut up all of your credit cards and then make a picture out of the shreds like this couple did.
I thought this was funny but if it works for them then that is what they need to do.? I just put my cards away and I made a vow not to use them. I did not freeze them or cut them up or put them in a really inconvenient place.
I just have them all in an old wallet and they are not being touched.
Changes to site
I have made a few more changes to the site. Well actually my technician over at Web Dev made the changes.
Posts now show only the first 100 words and then there is a link to read the rest of the post. We decided on this as a way to save space on the front page. Having the shorter posts will allow for more posts to appear on the front page but will make the page load faster.
The old style had the entire post showing on the front page. This way was okay if there were a few short posts but when there was a long post it really stretched the post out.
Tracking my Finances in November: Day 11
Welcome to my daily tracking of income and expenses for the month.
Income for the month to date: $2663.05
Expenses for the month to date: $1056.00
Net effect: $1607.05
So far it is almost the middle of the month and I have a positive cash flow for the month. This is partly because I counted the income from the internship on the first day of the month instead of the last day of last month. We get paid on the last working day of the month and so I do not see the money in my account until the first of the month so I will continue to account for it then.
