I will be going home for the month of July this year. I have not been home for a long time (about 5 years!!!) and while I will be happy to see my family…it will be a litle sad since I lost my mother in December last year.

I will finally get to see her grave since I could not go home for the funeral. I am not sure how I will react to that yet…but it is something I need to do.

So I will be off to sunny St. Lucia for about a month with nothing to do all day. I will continue to prewrite some posts for that time so the blog will be updated on the regular Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule, with little tidbits thrown in on the other days.

I will be looking for a few guest posts as well so get those thinking caps on.

You can use the contact page to send me info about the guest post you want to send in.

One benefit of going home is that my electricity bill (high during the Texas summers) will be lower since I will not be at home for a whole month. Yippee!!!!

I promise the following:

* I will have fun

* I will sleep late

* I will eat TONS of fruits

* I will NOT get a sunburn

* I will take pictures

* I will stay within my budget (easy to do since I will be operating on a cash only basis when I go home. International fees would KILL my credit cards!!!!)

Other than that….it is all up for grabs.

It is supposed to be REALLY cold on thursday and all I can think about is going to the beach in St. Lucia. I am dreaming of Pigeon Point beach and I can feel the water in my mind. I might even go to Anse LaRaye beach since our house is about 5 minutes from the beach.

Okay now why did I start thinking about this? Now I am craving a beach lime. I can just see myself taking some baked macaroni and red beans and fried fish and lime squash and rounding up some people and going to the beach.

We would spend the whole day and come back sunburned, salty and slightly seasick. Now that I can ride a bike (yes I just learned recently!) I could ride along the causeway and smell that fresh sea air and feel the cool sea breeze blowing against my skin.

Wish list:

ticket to go to St. Lucia to spend Christmas on the beach

a bike so I can ride along the causeway

enough money to enjoy a great, long overdue vacation

It is getting colder and colder and all I can think of is lying on the beach or walking on the warm sand.

I want some real (read:caribbean) fruit cake and eggnogg.

Of course since the tickets home now cost around $600.00 I would not be saving any money (which is the whole point of this).

Our secretary just bought me some coffee from starbucks (hey I am not about to dish out $3.00 for one cup of coffee…even though it tastes heavenly).

On the point of going home….I always use Orbitz to search for flights because they are so easy to use. You can also find better deals using Orbitz than using the airline sites and you can compare different airlines.

I would love to be able to go home this Christmas and get away from the cold but that is not possible (unless I win the lottery!) so I guess I will just have to drink lots of tea and wear layers.

Did you have to carry water in a paint bucket (skillit)?

Remember when we used to rush home on an afternoon because the following would be waiting for us
-Bread and condensed milk
-Bread and oil or cooking butter
-Bread and coconut
-Farine and Klim

About the klim…….did you ever try to steal klim and it stuck to your pallet and made you chock (TOOFAY)

Remember all your mother could afford for lunch was an Aman Rock Cake and a red JU-C

Remember…….

1. Going to buy bread and breaking off the tot-tots

2. going to buy saltfish and breaking little bits off the edges

Did your father ever beat you because they found a sweetie wrapper in you pocket with the words “I love you” or “Kiss me” and they would not believe that you put it there yourself?

I don’t know about you but I only had the following at Christmas

Ham

Pan bread to make sang-gwage (please pronounce it as you see it, it is not a typo)

Malt

A whole JU-C for yourself and the bottle would would knock your front teeth

And this is what my shopping list would look like when they sent me to “make message”

1/4 bottle oil

1/4 lb saltfish

2 oz keg butter

2 oz oleo butter

1/2 lc macaronni

1 lb salt

1 lb brown sugar (white sugar was for rich people)

2 oz banana essence (the really good type – not the nonsense they selling now)

2 oz white vaseline

2 oz yellow vaseline

Remember the scales they use for weighing and the paper they used to wrap up the products.
