I live in an apartment without a balcony so I bought a folding drying rack.

I simply put the clothes in the washer and then when they are done I hand them on the drying rack in the second bedroom. The windows are open during the day so fresh air and sunlight come pouring in. The clothes dry in a few hours and I save money from not using the drier.

It is especially great now because now that I am home for most days during the summer I can do laundry in the morning and the clothes are dry by afternoon. I really wish I could dry the clothes in the sun so they get that wonderful sun dried scent but that will have to wait until I have a house.

I am going to continue hanging my clothes out to take full advantage of this super hot weather because it will be too cold and damp to do that once winter comes around.

Debt Consolidation Care offers an online budgeting application that helps you in planning a budget effectively. You can use this software to plan your monthly as well as quarterly budget.

Personal Budgeting Application is simple and easy to use. It’s a 4 step process –

Income,

Budget,

Expenses and

Report.

At first, you need to fill out the respective fields regarding your income. Then, you need to plan a budget according to your needs. In the ‘Expenses’ section, you should fill out your actual expenses. By doing this, you can compare at the end of the month, what you’ve allocated and what you’ve actually spent. This is what the ‘Report’ section helps you to analyze.

To use the software, you simply need to click on the respective fields and fill out by giving out certain information (such as, your transportation expense, housing expense, etc.) By doing so, you can calculate your total monthly income and expenditure that helps you to plan a budget. One of the most useful features of this application is that there are various fields that help you in allocating your monthly budget, however small it may be.

By clicking on the ‘Report’ section of the personal budgeting software, you can review whether or not you’re able to save a certain amount every month. In addition to this, you can also compare your budget with that of the community. It helps you to assess the similarities and differences of your budget with that of other community members. By doing so, you can make changes to your budget as required.

Budgeting is really important. Without a proper budget, you won’t be able to manage your finances effectively. Everyone has to plan an effective budget regardless of whether or not he/she is earning hundreds or thousands of dollars each month. Budget helps you achieve your short term as well as your long term financial goals. This is because budgeting helps you to assess how you’re spending your income. In turn, you can cut down your expenses if you have to spend more on other items. If required, you can also plan a budget that can help you in your frugal living or to pay off your debts.

It can be said that with budgeting you can plan your savings and invest it whenever required. In this regard, it requires a mention that you should plan a realistic budget as otherwise you’ll not be able to follow it. So, you should take help of such personal budgeting software that helps you in allocating your income to micro-expenses. Debt Consolidation Care (DebtCC) website offers such a budgeting application with the help of which you can plan a realistic monthly budget.
It can be said that personal budgeting software is the perfect solution to manage your finances. By using this software, you can organize your cash flow. Moreover, the easy-to- understand graphs enable you to visualize and thus analyze your expenses on a month-to-month basis. This in turn, helps track your progress and you can understand where you need to improve in order to manage your finances in a better way.

You can use the Personal Budgeting Software developed by Debt Consolidation Care Community as many times as you want absolutely free of cost. However, you’ll have to become a registered member if you want to save your data and maintain a record. Otherwise, your old data would not be saved. So, if you become a registered member, you can save your data and in turn, calculate your progress over the months.

It can also be said that this Personal Budgeting Application helps you in your calculations. You don’t have to perform the required calculations in your excel sheet. Moreover, you can just input the relevant data and make changes to your budget plan as and when required.

Debt Consolidation Care is an online community where people struggling to pay off debts, can get suggestions from industry experts. The first is that I was trying to not spend ANY money out of pocket and simply rely on the gift cards that I got from one of my cash back cards.

I have decided to post my weekly spending for the previous week on Fridays so you know how my cash has been flowing for the week. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.

This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.

So again to clarify (since I get so many questions), this shows the cash FLOW for the month. On Day 2 of every month I will have a negative FLOW because I have paid rent etc so money has LEFT my checking account. I have not had any money come in on Day 2 of the current month since I got paid on day 27 or 30 or 31 of the previous month so that income is counted for LAST month.

Income for the month to date: $396.61

Expenses for the month to date: $2492.15

Net effect: -$2095.54

Since the last posting I spent $94.43 on household items and $44.02 on food. Income for the week was $4.13 from Lending Club and I also sent off $25 to create a new loan there. I made a little snowflake payment to the car loan and made the weekly payments to the credit cards to get them to that zero balance at the end of the month.

I spent $18.47 ordering litter box liners online for Dinero because Walmart has decided to stop carrying the sifting liners that work so well for us.

This week was a light one in terms of spending and income since I stayed home all day working on projects.

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!

Discover card is pleased to announce that they have improved the cash back rewards program and made it a little easier and more fun to use. Discover is a great credit card to have as it offers 3% cash back and you get rotating rewards that offer up to 5% cash back every quarter. I use this card for most of my purchases and then use it strictly for gas during the summer as the rewards on gas are the highest at that time.

The biggest changes come in the form of :

Improved Navigation

Quick Find

Recommendations For You

More Redemption Options

The site has been laid out to make it much easier to navigate through and get what you want quickly. This means you can just go straight to the category you want and find exactly what you need.

With the Quick Find option you can locate the different rewards that you need with just a few clicks. Looking for restaurant gift cards? That is available in a few clicks! Looking for online gift cards? Well you can find that too with the quick find on the site.

Based on your shopping habits and what you have redeemed in the past, Discover makes personalized recommendations for the types of rewards you want to redeem. This is a great way to save time because you do not have to scroll through pages of rewards to find something you like.

There have also been more redemption offers included in the list from gift cards to ipods and other merchandise. And the best part of it all is that unlike some other rewards programs they ship FREE to any US street address!!!!

I love my Discover card and although I was using it to only get Red Lobster and CVS gift cards I might just start checking out the other options available in the prizes section.

Remember, to make the most optimal use of your Discover credit card you need to:

Have a zero balance

Pay the card in full every statement

Another great option of the Discover cash back program that I forgot to mention is that when you choose a gift card (of a certain amount) you get a bonus $5. So every time I redeem $45 in rewards for a CVS gift card I end up getting a $50 gift card, while a $20 redemption at Sally’s gives me a $25 gift card!!

I know this is a few days late but I have been crazy busy with classes and other things…not an excuse I know.

I managed to come out in the black to the tune of $580.68 for the month. This money has been put into the snowflake account to go towards debt in July so that I can move close to my goal of being debt free.

I bought one newspaper for coupons and redeemed $8 in coupons giving me a gain of $5 for the month in coupons and $49.01 for the year in coupons.

Total Income from Lending Club was $50.69, of which $25 was a referral so I made $25.69 income from people who repaid their loans. I decided to make a loan every month that I receive $25 so in July I will be making a new loan. Then I will continue to withdraw money on a weekly basis as it is repaid and if I have gotten at least $25 that month then I will make a new loan in the next month.

I spent $74.60 on gas for the month because I had to attend a few training sessions out of town for the month. This brought me over my gas budget for the month by $14.60 but this is balanced out by all the previous months where I did not even come close to spending my gas budget.

Total income from Prosper was $6.82 which is not bad as I am only looking to withdraw all my money from Prosper as my Lending Club investments are doing much better.

I received $6 from PineCone for doing surveys and those also went into the snowflake account. June was a pretty good month for cash flow and I am really throwing money into the debts this month and in upcoming months so that I can finally get to saving.

Check out my Experiences with LASIK surgery

Income for the month to date: $392.48

Expenses for the month to date: $2269.70

Net effect: -$1877.22

Since the last posting I spent $70 on insurance by putting it into the car fund as the next 6 month payment is not due until the end of July. According to the new total it will cost me $65.94 per month for my insurance, but I am leaving the budget unchanged and will just pay the full amount from the Car Fund. I will continue to ‘pay’ $70 into the car fund every month in order to keep the budget stable.

Income for the week was $28 from the blog and $10 gift card for redeeming some points from my insurance. I also got $4.93 from Lending Club and then reinvested $25 to make a new loan this month. I did not spend a lot this week as I spent most of the week at home and my birthday spending is going to be separate from the regular budget money. This weekend I will be going out to Red Lobster but this is coming out of the birthday blowout money!

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!

Happy birthday to me!!!!

Ha-ppy birthday to meeeeeee——eeeeeeee

Happy birthday to me.

Yes folks today is my real life birthday and I am not going to look at ways to save money since I am going to SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!!!

Well at least I am going to try to spend, since that is not something that really comes naturally to me. I have a few things in mind that I would like to spend the money on but I am not sure if I can get of the saving money mindset as yet.

taken from www.siue.edu

I saved and put aside some money in my little splurge fund and in snowflakes and other things and I have a grand total of $345 that I can just BLOW today.

I might do some of the following:

-get a pedicure

-buy some clothes

-buy lunch at a nice restaurant

-buy a book

This birthday money was already accounted for in my budget so I am not going to even worry about it. Today is all about me and if I see something that I want then I am going to get it….or maybe not.

I recently wrote about my My Top 5 Favorite Things In Pictures and then realized that I had a few more that I wanted to add to the post.

1. My Pet: I have a cat and he is currently the love of my life. He welcomes me home (well as much as cats do) and is just a furry bundle of joy to play with when he is in the mood.

I have gotten mad at him at times (scratched furniture, peed on pillow) but now I cannot imagine my life without him.

2. My extra bathroom. Yes I have two bathrooms but I love my privacy and it really comes in handy when I have someone over.

Currently the cat’s litter boxes (yes he has two bathrooms too!!!) are in the second bathroom so none of that stuff gets in my way when I need the bathroom.

taken from luxuryproperty.com

This is obviously NOT my second bathroom…it would be my MAIN bathroom if I had the money!!!!!!

3. LASIK. I cannot tell you how happy I have been since I got LASIK. I can see and that is great for me.

LASIK is not for everyone but it worked out for me and after years of needing to wear glasses or contacts I cannot begin to explain how it feels to wake up in the morning and just be able to see.

4. Rewards Credit Card. Spend money…pay card…earn rewards. Enough said.

5. Dual shower heads. I have always loved having a larger than normal shower head or one with different adjustable jets so picking up this darling was just right for me. It comes with a central shower head that has different jets and it can be removed and used as a handheld shower, while the outer part gives off a wide spray. Bathroom bliss!!!

Income for the month to date: $359.55

Expenses for the month to date: $1614.87

Net effect: -$1255.32

Since the last posting I spent $65 on the phone bill to cover my cellphone (unlimited EVERYTHING) and the data plan!! I also paid two small personal loans and transferred the excess money from last month into my snowflake account. I will be sending off this snowflake payment towards the car loan later on in the month.

I broke down and bought some food at Taco Bell at a cost $4.10 but after months of not eating fast food I was not impressed with it. I spent an additional $25.01 on groceries, mostly fruits and vegetables and also some milk. I bought a bookshelf for $19 which will go into the spare bedroom as additional storage.

Income for the week was $6.55 from Lending Club as a couple of people paid a little bit extra on their loans. I also got a $3 check from PineCone and this is going into the snowflake fund to pay off debt later on.

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!

I never thought I would be saying this but I just got hit with a bank fee. I use ING as my main bank but since it is an online bank I have another bank (which shall not be named) for times when I need to deposit a check or get quarters or something like that.

I utilize the online banking system and since I never keep more than $20 in there (it does not bear interest) I glance at the statements but do not pay attention to them.

A few days ago I noticed Mint said there was a withdrawal of $5.95 which immediately threw up a red flag for me because the only withdrawals I make from that account are in $10 increments since I get one roll of quarters every now and then. I do not even have a debit card for that account because they charge you $12 ‘convenience fee’ for the debit card…which is separate from the ATM fees.

I also do not have checks for that account because it is simply a gateway account to ING in case I need to make a physical deposit. So WHERE did the fee come from?

Well, two months ago the bank sent out a notice in the paper statements saying that they would be charging a monthly fee if the following two conditions were not met:

1. Have a monthly direct deposit to the account

2. Carry a minimum balance of $100 daily

Now I had the first condition under control because I had ING send over $10 monthly and I would be taking quarters out based on the difference from any checks I had deposited that month like from PineCone and other sources.

I had no reason to keep $100 in the account because:

1. I do not use cash for purchases

2. The account does not bear interest

So I was hit with the stupid fee which I could have avoided if I had read all the details on the statement….printed on the BACK no less. It really was my own fault for going so paperless with this account that I did not read anything, I simply looked to see if the balances matched what I saw daily in Mint and moved on.

I feel REALLY silly now for letting myself get hit with that fee so it is going under the Stupid Tax for the year.

Net effect: -$471.10

Since the last posting I spent $24.37 on household items and $35.02 on food. I realize that week one reporting only covers two days so I am splitting the shopping and will get Sunday’s shopping week 2 to balance the expense flow. Blogging income was $350 which is a very nice way to start the month and balance out spending so far. I also paid rent and associated apartment costs and moved some money to savings.

I made a minor tweak to the budget this month to account for some changes that will be coming up in the future, including some snowflake payments that will be going out quite soon.

I saw this post at You Have More Than You Think and decided to do a similar one.

I am always trying to find ways to save money or to make more money and I talk about being frugal.

This does not mean that I do not spend money and in fact here is a list of a few things that I am glad I spent the extra money on.

My Electric Toothbrush: I got this as a Christmas present and recently had to buy new heads for the brush.

I am glad I spent the money because my teeth feel SO very clean when I use the brush that I literally run home to brush in the evenings.

My dentist has already said they notice that I am doing a better job and I told them I got this new toothbrush!!!

Coupon Binder: I can get coupons for the next few months so this helps me to save money in the future.

I buy one coupon packet every month and use the coupons through the year to save money.

Vitamins: Hey they help keep me healthy!!!! I don’t take as many as in the image but I am sure to pop at least a Centrum and a Vitamin C every day.

image from wehonews.com

Internet Connection: I recently cut the cable cord by disconnecting my cable television service BUT there is no way I will go without internet service.

Smart Phone: I currently have a Google G1 phone and it is like my right lung right now. I do not know how I survived without this phone as it allows me to be constantly online and access so many things.

image from lifestyle.iloveindia.com

Learning the basics of personal finance is often saved until our first brush with student debt. In the present economic environment though, this can be a difficult lesson, with very little room for error. As the student lifestyle can be an expensive one, this shortage of jobs can make paying off our student debt a daunting prospect. So, the personal finance learning curve needs to be a steep one.

Getting the right start in our financial lives is important because any mistakes that we make in the first few years after graduation could have long-lasting effects. You might even find that your student debt affects your ability to secure a mortgage on a home or get the kind of job you were hoping for. To be sure of safeguarding against these longer-term financial side effects, tackle your debt problems early and take a grown-up approach to personal finance.

Firstly, the basics of personal finance are all common sense; pay your bills on time, try to save what you can and don’t spend any more than you make. However, as so much of being a student is based on credit, your personal finance strategy has to incorporate intelligent debt management, rather than debt avoidance.

In terms of credit card debt, the best way to look after your credit rating is to show lenders that you are a trustworthy, reliable and restrained borrower. That means making your debt repayments on time and limiting how much of your available credit you actually use.

In terms of running your current bank account, the best personal finance advice is perfectly simple; live a thrifty student lifestyle that takes advantage of all of those special student rates. When it comes to paying off any debt, a lower repayment will prolong the repayment period.

Income for the month to date: $546.48

Expenses for the month to date: $2184.22

Net effect: -$1637.74

Since the last posting I $17.04 on gas and that should be the last big gas purchase for the remainder of the month as I do not have any more long trips until next month.

I received a $3 check from Pinecone which was put into the snowflake fund and will be used to make an extra payment on the car loan. I received $3.26 from Prosper and $6.59 from Lending Club as people repaid the loans I gave them.

I also received $375 in blogging income from various sponsors for which I am very grateful.

I am almost at the budget level for a few things so I am glad that there is only one week left in this month AND we get paid next Wednesday.

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!
