I have lived for 9 years in different apartments and never thought it was worth it...but this is not my choice. The complex made the announcement that we would not be able to get lease renewals without proof of insurance, and this is one of the best places to live in this small town, not to mention that it is close to work etc. so I grin and bear it. :-) I just started paying apartment insurance this august because it was written into the lease.
