Tracking My Finances In 2009: 23 July
Welcome to tracking of income and expenses for the month. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.
This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.
No Budget, Variable Income AND Tons Of Debt
The title represents someone I was speaking to recently and I think this is very sad. There is a family with a small child and the state of their finances goes like this”
- No savings
- Huge debt
- No budget
- Irregular income
The husband works from home as a private consultant but is very lax about collecting debts that are owed to him. He extends credit to his customers who usually take months to pay him back, always claiming that they do not have any money.
Save Money By Making Smart Choices
I had a conversation with someone who has an electric bill of over $350 every month for a three bedroom house. Now while this might not seem like much to people with houses, I found a few areas where this person could cut down on the bill. Here are some of the problem areas I found:
- Kitchen light left on all night
- Television left on 24/7 (really!!!!)
- Fans left on all day
- No CFLs in use
- Radio left on all day (when no one is listening to it)

Tracking My Finances In 2009: 11 July
I am currently on a plane on my way to St. Lucia for a much needed break. It will only be a partial break as I am working on some online classes through the summer but I still get to go to the beach so yippee!!!!!
My birthday is on Wednesday the 15th and I plan to laze around ALL day and then party at night. To achieve this I will need to do my classwork on Sunday and Monday since Tuesday I will not have access to a computer and the final assignments are due on Thursday.
How I Save Money At CVS:6 July 2009
Today I paid $0 out of pocket for $1.78 worth of items. I had $2 ECB from the last time and since I will be travelling for a month and will not have access to CVS I decided to spend them even though I was going to ‘lose’ money on this transaction.
I sort of made money on one pack because it cost $0.89 and I got back $0.99 in ECBs. I had to pay the full price for the second pack.
Transaction 1
Item: CVS panty liners (got two so I could use the $2 ECB, but the limit on the ECB is one packet)
