One Year After Cutting The Cable Cord
I gave up cable television for Lent last year and then ended up going on for months without reconnecting it. I used Netflix for a little while but relied on Hulu for my entertainment and watched television programming on the computer.
Along with giving up cable I also unplugged the television (which is OLD!!!!!) and have not turned it on except for about 5 minutes every couple of months to make sure that it was still working. I have gotten so accustomed to watching shows on MY time and not on the specified time from the network that right now I wonder how I lived without Hulu in the first place.
The Most Valuable Piece of Paper That is Not Money (Guest Post)
Saving money takes effort. When you are in a store and you notice there is a sale is going on, that’s a coincidence. But when you go to a specific store over another because you know there is a sale going on that’s a smart decision. While there are always people complaining about how much things cost, there are only a few that are willing to do anything about it. Those who are being smart with their cash are rarely the ones whining. This is because these individuals have the right attitude. They challenge themselves to find the best deals out there. They have done their research scanning through all of the stores in their neighborhood, discovering who has what at the lowest price. This mentality and determination becomes extremely valuable when you’re going out to buy food.
Tracking My Finances In 2011: February Week 1
I have decided to post my weekly spending for the previous week on Fridays so you know how my cash has been flowing for the week. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.
This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.
My Oops Moment With A Debit Card…Or Why I Don’t Use Them
It is no secret that I love my credit cards and use them as often as possible. I do not use debit cards and even decline them when I open a new account because I do not want to deal with them.
My Health Savings Account came with a Visa card which happens to be a debit card. I have been using this card for medical purchases like copays or paying bills that were not covered by insurance and in each case the card was swiped and run like a credit card, I signed and that was the end of it.
How I Am Preparing For Higher Gas Prices
The price of gas has been steadily creeping up and it is only going to get higher as summer comes along. While there is nothing I can do to change the price of gas I can take steps to lessen the hurt on my budget while the prices are still relatively low.
I am preparing for higher gas prices by taking a closer look at my budget. I will be doing two main things to make the summer more bearable when it comes to filling up my tank.
* Increase my gas budget
* Roll over my gas budget

Not Sure If I Want Kids And I REALLY Want People To Stop Harassing Me About It
Lately I have been getting a lot of pressure about having children and it is mainly from my coworkers. My father has mentioned his lack of grandkids more than once, especially since HIS brother already has a couple from my cousin.
I am my father’s only child so I am really getting a lot of pressure from him, although I think if he was so serious about having grandchildren then he should have raised his odds by having more than one child right?
