How I Save Money At CVS: Valentines Day 2010

Posted by LuLuGal | February 14, 2010.

Today I paid $0.00 out of pocket for $29.98 worth of items. Today is Valentine’s Day but the deals at CVS were not all that great in my mind. I only got three items that I really wanted and was not impressed by the rest of the selections. I made a purchase last week that I forgot to post so transaction 1 will be last week and transaction 2 will be this week.

Since my gift card balance is now so low and I made a pledge to not spend out of pocket at CVS this year I will have to find a way to generate another gift card so that I can continue shopping there.

6 Ways To Save This Valentine’s Day (Guest Post)

An expression of love for one’s significant other is a deeply personal thing. Or at least it used to be. Now it’s an industry but that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank to do something special for that someone special. Here are some easy, affordable ways to say I love you.

Buy A Plant

Buying cut flowers from a plant store is highway robbery in the month of February so consider buying your Valentine a plant instead. Daffodils, Tulips, Orchids, Forget-Me-Nots and Lavender all symbolize love. Plus they last longer than roses and are a fraction of the cost. Why should a symbol of one’s undying love be dead or dying a week after it’s bestowed?

Tracking My Finances In 2010: February Week 2

Posted by LuLuGal | February 12, 2010.

I have decided to post my weekly spending for the previous week on Fridays so you know how my cash has been flowing for the week. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.

This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.

Trimming My Budget: Toiletries

Posted by LuLuGal | February 10, 2010.

Who came up with the word toiletries anyway? Are these items that we use only around the toilet? I just completed my No Spend January but since I had those big expenses that crashed the emergency fund I think my results were a bit off. I am trying for another No Spend Month this February and decided to cut down toiletries this time around.

No Spend Month: February 2010

Posted by LuLuGal | February 3, 2010.

My last No Spend Month (January 2010) did not go as well as I had planned because of a number of unexpected crises. I did do less shopping but I ended up spending more money on bills that completely ate away any savings that I might have had from buying less. I am going to try another Financial Fast this month and try to have a No Spend February.

Here are a few of the things that I already know I should not buy this month because I already have enough to last me until the next month:

  • toothpaste

No Budget And No Clue

Posted by LuLuGal | February 1, 2010.

In addition to Getting Mad About Getting Paid there are people who have No Budget and No Clue. Recently someone complained about all the high fees her family was paying in overdrafts every month. She thinks that she was paying about 3 overdraft fees every month because of not knowing who was withdrawing money or having late deposits.

I offered to help the individual and even set up a spending log so she could track her spending to get an idea of where the money was going. The person said she would fill in the sheets on the weekend and I reminded her every few days. On the Monday following our conversation I asked how it went and she admitted that she had not done any of it.
