Tracking My Finances In 2011: September Week 4

Posted by LuLuGal | September 23, 2011.

I have decided to post my weekly spending for the previous week on Fridays so you know how my cash has been flowing for the week. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.

This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.

Figuring Out the Best Debt Relief Option (Guest Post)

Posted by LuLuGal | September 21, 2011.

When you’re looking at al the debt relief options available, you can easily become overwhelmed trying to decide which is the best for you. There’s credit counseling, debt consolidation, debt settlement, and of course, you can pay your debt off on your own. You can call up a few companies and interview them about the solutions you offer, but that could take several hours a day. An alternative is to use a simply debt planner calculator, like the one from CNN Money, to figure out the best way to get out of debt.

5 Unnecessary Things You’re Paying For Every Month (Guest Post)

Posted by LuLuGal | September 19, 2011.

If you’re like me, you’ve subscribed to about 100 different little things online – most of which just take money out of your bank account every month. Like a lot of web developers, I’m sort of a sucker for little programs that promise to make my life easier (and some of them actually work). But there are many that I sign up for, only to stop using them a month later and forget that they even draw from my account. Obviously, if I had an accountant, he’d be tearing his hair out looking at my monthly bank statement.

Checking My Eggs To Save Money

Posted by LuLuGal | September 12, 2011.

I was in the grocery store getting some eggs and going through my routine of checking the eggs for breakage. I do this by opening the carton and scanning the tops and sides of the eggs.

I then lift each egg out and look the bottom and the sides I did not initially see before moving on to the next egg.

I make sure to check all twelve of the eggs and if I find one cracked egg I will move on to a new carton. This means I may spend about two minutes checking at times before I find an unblemished carton but it is worth it as I do not want to purchase any cracked eggs.

I Have Been (Unintentionally) Overstating My Spending

Posted by LuLuGal | September 7, 2011.

Well boy is MY face red!

I was going over my budget spreadsheet and noticed that the total spending for the month was way over what it should have been on the first day of the month.

I had entered the amount for rent and the phone bill but the total spending was not equal to the sum of the individual categories. I remembered that I had made some changes to the budget spreadsheet recently and I knew that Mint was not synced with my spreadsheet but I never paid attention to that.  This month I saw that the amounts were grossly out of sync so I decided to take a look at my totals once again.
