7 ways to save money

  1. Use the free checks you get from the bank. When you open a checking account the bank gives you one whole box of free checks. Most of us don’t even use the checks because sometimes they are really ugly and no one wants to use ugly checks right? So we hold on to them and order new checks (that we have to PAY for) and when they come in we throw the bank styles in the trash. WHY? The ugly checks are just as valid as the pretty ones with the rainbows and the unicorns that you spend extra money on. If you really want to keep track of your money then sometimes you can find yourself saving on really small, simple things that you do not even take much notice of.
  2. Get a credit card that has no annual fee. There are MANY cards out there with great features and benefits that you do not have to pay an annual fee for. My personal fave is the Capital One card with the 8.9 percent interest rate. This is one of the easier cards to manage, there is no annual fee and a low interest rate.
  3. Pay your card on time. When you do get that low interest, no annual fee card PLEASE, please pay the bill on time. There is no need to pay the card late and end up paying late fees.
  4. Buy books from used book stores or better yet look for them online. You would be amazed at some of the deals you can get from Half.com or Amazon.com. You can also sell textbooks back to the bookstore on campus if you are enrolled. Sometimes you can sell books back to thrift stores and get rid of those old books you have not read in years.
  5. Go to the dollar theater. You don’t HAVE to see the movie as soon as it comes out. If you wait a little while the movie will soon be shown at lower prices and you can enjoy it then. Or if you have a computer you can get it from your peers through various legal sharing programs.
  6. Get a Sam’s card and share it with friends. Better yet get a Sam’s business card and split the cost with people you can shop with. Shop in a group and split the essentials like sugar, salt and flour.
  7. Walk whenever you can or use public transportation and only use your car, if you have one, for the really serious cases where you have to use it.

  1. Dan says:

To really save money..never use a credit card…forget the annual fee.. that’ nothing…. Show some patients and save money for the item you want to put on the credit card. We used to use a credit card and every month just before we got paid at the beginning of the month we would have a $500 to $1000 payment to make to make the credit card. So 1 day into the next month we were already down 500 -1000 bucks… We started being patient and saving…no credit card payment every month…that is saving us money…. It sound dumb but it is making a huge difference… Most of us make enough money … we (me included) are not patient and need to learn to save.
