The meaning of the word Poor
Being Poor by John
Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs.
Being poor is having to keep buying $800 cars because they’re what you can afford, and then having the cars break down on you, because there’s not an $800 car in America that’s worth a damn.
Being poor is thinking $8 an hour is a really good deal.
Being poor is picking the 10 cent ramen instead of the 12 cent ramen because that’s two extra packages for every dollar.
I found these words very moving. I cried when I read some of them, laughed when I read some and even identified with some of them. This is what I have been looking for. This is real. This is what truly debt-ridden, poor people have to deal with constantly.
This is what you see when you cannot afford to say I saved extra money by quitting smoking….because you can’t even afford the cigarettes in the first place. (By the way I do not smoke so this does not apply to me).
I have had some people read this and not be able to comprehen what John writes about. They think it is a joke. These are obviously the ones who are not poor and so the concepts presented here are foreign to them.
Great job John on putting out those words.
