Save Paper and Save Money…Why I Do Not Get ATM Receipts

April 28th, 2008 by LuLuGal

In my quest to save money I like to think of some little things I can do to conserve every day. This might not be a big deal to everyone but it helps me to think that I am making a difference.

When I have to use the ATM, which is not often because I do not carry cash that much, I never get a receipt . I always use the option that says not to get a receipt because quite frankly I do not need it. I balance my checkbook every day and I always know what is in my bank account at any given time.

By not getting a receipt I am saving on the paper that would need to be printed off and let’s face it I would be throwing the paper receipt away as soon as I entered the figures in Money anyway.

If we all start using the option to not get a receipt at the ATM it would slowly add up over time.
So save paper, save money and save the Earth too . Don’t get a receipt from the ATM.

What do you think?

Had a Job Interview But I Will NOT Be Taking the Position

April 24th, 2008 by LuLuGal

In my quest to save money and make more money to get rid of that debt, I decided to go on an interview. Actually I have been looking for another job for a while now since I am not where I truly want to be just yet.

I got a phone call from a company where I submitted my resume and went in for the initial interview. It was for a sales position but I went anyway because the company has had some rapid growth and looked promising. The first interview went well and I got a call back for a second interview.

The position was in sales to customers of a very large Fortune 500 company. The company provided the leads daily and the sales people were to contact the customers to get them to upgrade to a new package.

I was excited up until the point where I was told to wear flat shoes because I would be doing a lot of walking . That put me in a bit of a funk because I thought the sales were conducted over the telephone. I still decided to give it a try and then we started to talk about income.

The manager told me that the position paid commission only for the time that you worked in sales. Only the managers and other non-sales personnel were paid a salary. When I asked what the average sales person made the figure quoted was significantly less than what I had seen on Salary.com as a reasonable rate for that position. It was also less than what I currently make and given the amount of debt I still have I decided that it just was not worth it.

The commission was a flat rate for every package sold, which sounded to me like you needed to sell a lot of packages daily in order to get any money. The hiring manager told me that there was not a quota to be met daily, but you do get paid based on your performance. Now if I had been in a better financial situation I might have considered taking the position but it is not something that will work for me right now.

I am also not into the sales thing at all so I guess I made the right decision. Would you work for commission only or do you need a regular salary every month?

Happy Earth Day

April 22nd, 2008 by LuLuGal

Today is Earth Day and we should all focus on what we can do to save money and save the earth at the same time.

Turn off unnecessary appliances and lights.

Throw your trash in the bins provided.

Walk more and save on the gas.

Bring your lunch to work.

Recycle something today.

Open the windows and get some fresh air instead of running the air conditioning. (People in Texas I am talking to YOU!!!)

What are YOU doing today to help save our Earth?

How I Saved Money On Lotion

April 21st, 2008 by LuLuGal

I have been thinking about the ways I need to save money and I realize that I splurge when it comes to lotion and use Palmer’s Cocoa Butter…which is more expensive than some stuff that you can get most places.

I know it is not the cheapest lotion that you can buy but I like to use quality stuff on my sensitive skin . I know that I need to save money wherever I can so I started thinking about how I could save money while still enjoying my favorite body lotion.

Welcome to my daily tracking of income and expenses for the month.

Penny.GIF

Wow I just blew my budget this month when it comes to Personal and Non Food items. I bought some lotion and body wash at Bath and Body Works this weekend, bringing my Personal budget to $17.43 over the budget for the month.

I also bought some expanding crystals for my new bamboo plant which came to $5.41 and brought my Miscellaneous Mad Money budget to a total of $63.47, which is $20 over the $40 budgeted for the month .

Save Money and Time by Reloading your Dishwasher

April 20th, 2008 by LuLuGal

You can save money by saving time when you perform your ordinary household chores. Did you know that if you simply organize the dishwasher in a certain way you can trim minutes off your unloading time? This frees up that time for you to do other things and it really adds up day after day.

Most people load the cups and plates in the dishwasher in an orderly way but tend to ignore the cutlery. Have you found yourself putting the cutlery in the little basket in any slot your hand comes closest to?

Get A FREE Sample of Kashi Granola

April 18th, 2008 by LuLuGal

I just LOVE how I can save money by getting free stuff. You too can save money on stuff by ordering a free sample of Kashi Granola cereal .

Now before you go rolling your eyes about it being granola and being too healthy I must tell you that this cereal tastes GREAT.

I was a bit skeptical when I first tried it but it tastes really good. I have only tried the cranberry one so I have no idea what the other flavors taste like, but based on what I tried they should all be good.
