The Essential Credit Repair Handbook (Book Review)

Posted by LuLuGal | June 27, 2011 .

I received this book called The Essential Credit Repair Handbook and I thought it would be a good book to share with you all. The thing I like the most about the book is that it is very readable but it does not talk down to the reader. I got this book just as I was getting some questions from a reader about how to repair her credit and get out of debt so this will be a good review of some of the tips that I gave the reader.

How To Make Your Car Last Forever (Book Review)

Posted by LuLuGal | November 17, 2010 .

Tom Torbjornsen wrote the book How to Make Your Car Last Forever
in order to help car owners save money on their vehicles by keeping them in great shape. The book promises to offer tips that can help you keep your vehicle in top shape so that it can last longer than you ever thought possible.

I received this book to do a review and my first thought was that the name was a bit misleading. It probably should have been called How To Make Your Car Last Longer Than You Thought or something similar because we all know that sooner or later the car WILL give up and die no matter how well you take care of it.

Intuit Is NOT Going To Change Mint

Posted by LuLuGal | September 20, 2009 .

There has been A LOT of talk about Intuit taking over Mint and people are worried about whether there will be a hybrid of the two. Mintken? QuicMint?

In this release from Mint.com Scott Cook, the founder of Quicken, says that Intuit is Not Going To Change Mint. So we can all rest assured that we will still have Mint.com and QuickenOnline as two separate entities.

I use both sites to track my finances so if there is a merge I do not think I will be bothered. How do YOU feel about the merger between Mint and Quicken? Will you change your usage habits or not?

Product Review: Brother 790 CW Printer

Posted by LuLuGal | March 25, 2009 .

I was recently given the opportunity to test and review a printer from Brother. It is the Brother 790cw model and is a

printer

scanner

copier and

fax machine

all in one machine. The printer was shipped to me and the first thing I noticed was that it was a lot heavier than I expected. I guess it has to be heavy since it has all of those components all rolled into one machine.

What I Liked:

Copier works without software installation.

Ink was easy to install.

M&T Online Banking (Site Review)

Posted by LuLuGal | March 19, 2009 .

Interest rates are falling everywhere on savings and checking accounts and the economy is in a bad shape right now. One of the best things you can do to save money now is to put your money in a Money Market account, since these generally have higher savings rates than regular savings accounts.

The money market account might also have the advantage over a Certificate of Deposit in that you have faster access to your money. With this in mind one place you can put some money if you chose to is with an account at M&T Online Banking. M&T currently offers a money market rate of 0.75% APY, which may not seem like much right now…but when you think of some accounts that  are currently paying 0.42% you can see the difference in the interest that you will end up getting.

Coupon Chief (Site Review)

Posted by LuLuGal | March 17, 2009 .

I found the site Coupon Chief which offers coupons for online retailers.

Coupon Chief is very simple to use as outlined below:

1. Copy Coupon Code

2. Visit Online Retailer

3. Checkout With Code

Copy Coupon Code

You can search for coupons on the site by item such as furniture, shoes or toys. You can also search by retailer, e.g. Target to bring up a list of all available coupons for that site. You then copy the code for the item you want and move on to the retailer’s website. You can click to copy the code manually or write it down.

Amazon Deal Finder (Just In Time For Christmas)

Posted by LuLuGal | December 10, 2008 .

Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes shopping for gifts for everyone.  If you buy gifts online, like at Amazon.com you can save a lot of money over buying them in a traditional store.

It can get a bit overwhelming sometimes to sort through the mounds of stuff that is available so in steps the Amazon Discounts Finder. The site could not be easier to use and it can help you save time as well. All you have to do is enter a keyword, pick the category and then click the discount range you would like. I did a search for ‘Apple’ in the electronics category and put in a range from 90% to 99% discount.

It is Halloween Time Again

Posted by LuLuGal | October 30, 2008 .

It is Halloween time again and my coworkers were asking me what kinds of halloween costumes I had in mind for tomorrow. Apparently we were supposed to dress up (and WHERE is the memo?) for Halloween so that our students can have something to look forward to.

Um really?

I have never ‘dressed up’ for Halloween before. The closest I came to was putting on a Santa Claus hat and wearing a red sweatsuit for a party. I was ‘sexy Santa’. I had no idea we were supposed to be wearing costumes and it really is too late now for me to go scrounge anything up that would make sense.
