Monthly Financial Update: March 2010

Posted by LuLuGal | April 1, 2010 .

Whew it is time to look at one full month of finances and see how I came out in the end. I was in the black again for the month even after making a few larger than normal debt snowflake payments and a bit of overspending. I came out at $139.53 in the black after getting my paycheck and buying some more groceries in a last minute rush late in the evening.

Tracking My Finances In 2010: February Week 4

Posted by LuLuGal | February 26, 2010 .

I have decided to post my weekly spending for the previous week on Fridays so you know how my cash has been flowing for the week. Please note that I get paid on the last day of the month so my cash flow net effect will usually be negative until the last day of the month.

This does not mean that I am adding to my debt, it just means that the money coming in is less than the money going out because bills are due starting on the first but I don’t get paid until the last day.

6 Questions To Get To Know Each Other Financially

Posted by LuLuGal | February 8, 2010 .

I saw this post over at Budgets Sexy and thought it was a good way for us all to share a little bit more. I encourage you to fill out your own responses in the comments below so that we can all get to know each other a little better.

1) How do you spend: cash, debit or credit?

Wisdom Tooth Is Causing Me Financial Pain

Posted by LuLuGal | January 27, 2010 .

I had a Wisdom tooth taken out in December and according to what I was told by the billing specialist I put the balance on the credit card that I used when I got LASIK a couple of years ago.

I was lucky to get 0% financing on that card and planned to pay it off well before the deal expired. I went ahead and tweaked my Zero Based Budget to fit the payments in and I was on a roll….until I received a bill from the dental office for an extra $260.50. This is the balance that the dental insurance has decided it will not cover off the $450 that was charged for my anesthesia.

No Spend January Mid Month Check Up

Posted by LuLuGal | January 16, 2010 .
So this month I decided to join the No Spend trend and see how much I could save by NOT spending. It is currently the middle of the month and I think I am in good financial shape. Normally by this time I would have spent about $75 on groceries but I am sitting right on $31.35, which is slightly less than half. This amount actually represents what I would have spent in one week so it shows that I can actually make it through the month without all that extra shopping.
I have been eating what is in the pantry and the fridge….even though I have been strangely CRAVING Subway!!!!! I only cook once a week, on Sundays and then put the rest in the fridge for use during the week. By Tuesday or Wednesday the food is gone so I eat the frozen dinners that I had from last month.
Next week I will be eating cereal for breakfast and dinner on alternating days and leaving the more bulky foods for lunch. I have been eating fruit with lunch every day and I also eat a yogurt every night so I will need to go shopping this weekend to replenish those supplies.
I only used the gift card and ECBs that I had at the beginning of the year for my CVS shopping and did not even go crazy with that as I have a long way before I can redeem more points for another gift card.
It has not been too bad for the first few weeks and I will be throwing any money that was ’saved’ towards debt.
How is your No Spend month going?

Monthly Update: December 2009

Posted by LuLuGal | January 2, 2010 .

Even with the crazy Christmas spending and the unexpected bills I still managed to come out in the BLACK this December….by $27.63. Woo hoo!!!!

I spent $48.08 on gas this month, leaving me with $16.92 in the gas budget. I know this does not seem like a lot but I only made one trip out of town this month, when I usually make two. Also, I was at home for the last two weeks of the month since school is closed. My gas budget will remain as is because during the summer time I use more of the budget.

Automating My Finances Has Made Me Bored

Posted by LuLuGal | December 26, 2009 .

I have tweaked the way I pay bills and automated my finances to the point where I am now bored. I do not ‘pay’ bills because they are all drawn off my rewards earning credit cards. I then have ING push a payment every week to the credit card and by the end of the month the card is paid in full and I have not incurred any interest.
