Discover Card gives 5% Cash Back on Gas in July
I just signed up for the 5% cash back program for July-September with my Discover card to save money on gas. With the Discover card you can get 5% cash back year round , but every three months a different category is featured.
In July-September, the featured categories are Gas and Hotels but I do not have any plans to be using hotels in the foreseeable future. I will be doing a lot of driving since I have to take my mother to her chemotherapy sessions and her lab work sessions and they are during separate weeks.

In keeping with the transportation theme this month from the Wealth, Money and Life Network I have decided to make this contest fit the topic of gas that is on everyone’s mind.
I recently got a $20 gas card from one of my credit card companies for signing up for one of their credit protection plans. I cancelled it in time but I got the gift card anyway so it was like getting the card for free.
Tracking My Finances in June: Day 11
Welcome to How I Save Money and tracking of income and expenses for the month.
Income for the month to date: $29.33
Expenses for the month to date: $1570.15
Net effect: -$1540.82
This month looks UGLY and I do not know if I will be able to save money at all. I spent $30.64 on gas this week because I had to drive a good bit to go to a job fair. It was a big disappointment because:
- The job was filled by the time I moved up in the line to the recruiter
How I Save Money on Buying Gas
This month, the members of the Wealth, Money & Life Network have chosen Transportation as our group writing project. This is very close to our hearts right now with gas prices being what they are and just being on the rise still.
I recently wrote about my gas budget and how I make it through the month on just about $70 a month for gas . Of course I do have a fuel efficient car (go Mitsubishi Lancer!!!) and I practice a mild form of hypermiling (which I will write about later).

Net effect: -$1795.58
Now that we are in the final week of the month and I get paid on Saturday I can take a look at the budget once again. I am pleased to report that I am still within the budget for the month so overall I am happy with the performance of my money this month.
