Welcome to Money Mondays!

(If you are not reading this post at www.howisavemoney.net or in your feed reader, it may have been stolen from my site.)

I used to post my financial inflows and outflows on Fridays in the past but I decided to move this to Mondays instead. Normally I go grocery shopping on Sundays after church. Now I  will post the last week’s worth of financial inflows and outflows on Monday so that I can include the weekend spending as well.

This week my financial outflows were:

$17.70 for groceries. Now that I am staying with friends I find myself spending more on food than I had in the past. I do not have my kitchen items so I end up buying convenience foods which generally make only about two meals.

$41.99 to fill up my gas tank. This ridiculous heat is unbearable and I am constantly running the a/c in my car. Even if I keep it low I still need to have some cool air blowing when I drive around.

$40.46 on household items. My friends are not charging me rent and just want me to save my money since I have not started my new position as yet. I pay for my own food and we share food but I wanted to do something for them as well. This purchase included some over the door shoe bags…which you know I use as additional storage in the kitchen and bathroom. I also bought a welcome mat since they do not have a mat at the front door.

This week my financial inflows were:

$25 from redeeming some cash back. At some point I was doing a statement credit but just realized this is not the best option. The card earns 1% when I make purchases and a further 1% when it is paid. This effectively earns 2% on all purchases. By doing a statement credit I was robbing myself of the 1% for payments. I will now use the option to get a check mailed out and then deposit that check via the mobile app.
